The Fountain Valley consists of three cities, Security, Widefield and Fountain. The area is located about 15 miles south of Downtown Colorado Springs bordering the south side of the Colorado Springs municipal airport and east of Fort Carson.
Fountain was established in 1859 and incorporated in 1903, was named for nearby Fountain Creek. Security was established in 1953 and was so named to make prospective residents feel safe. Widefield came about in 1965 and was named for, well, its wide fields. Home values range from the low $60's to $1 million with lots ranging from small city lots to 5 acre where horses can be kept. The Fountain Valley offers affordable homes for first-time buyers.

After crunching census data, Fountain was determined to be the one city in the country that most closely reflected national demographics. The entire area is home to almost 50,000 people, and it is growing fast. According to the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce, Fountain is growing faster than El PasoCounty as the area expands eastward bringing new construction, schools, dining and shopping. Recreational activities include golfing at the newly renovated Appletree Golf Course. The course features an 18 holes course, scenic views of Pikes Peak from every angle and Club House. The new course will reopen in 2009. The Fountain Creek Nature Center has several trails, fishing ponds, wetland areas, childrens activities and events througout the year for the whole family. Local parks feature Frisbee -golf, a skateboard park, basketball, soccer, horseshoes, jogging and biking for the outdoor enthusiast.
