The Colorado Balloon Classic

The Colorado Balloon Classic is an annual family event held each Labor Day Weekend in Colorado Springs. The event was organized in 1977 and has grown to be the largest hot air balloon festival in the Rocky Mountain Region as well as the State of Colorado. The Colorado Balloon Classic is free to the public and is held in Memorial Park near the shores of Prospect Lake.

Mass ascensions of approximately 90 balloons are scheduled for Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings starting at 7:00 am. Visitors should get there early to find parking and place to view the ascension. Bring a blanket to sit on and warm clothes as it is normally chilly at this time of the morning. Concessions are available starting at 6:00 am. Bring a camera to photograph the balloons as they ascend over ProspectLake. Entertainment is provided following the mass ascension of the balloons each morning and each evening before the Balloon Glo®.

The Balloon Glo® is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday evenings. If you have never attended a Balloon Glo© you will want to make an effort to attend. The hot air balloons are filled with air at nightfall but do not launch. The balloons glow beautifully against the evening sky. Each year a variety of concessions are available and entertainment is provided during each event.

Mission : The Colorado Balloon Classic is an annual hot air balloon event held for the purpose of bringing the community together, improving the quality of life, drawing regional, national and international tourists, while showcasing our city and ultimately impacting the economic growth of our city.

Goals : To provide free family entertainment, and to raise money and awareness for non-profits and charities.

Directions: Memorial Park is located on Pikes Peak Avenue between Hancock Ave. and Union Blvd. To get to the Park from the north I-25 take exit 142 onto Bijou Street and go east to Cascade Ave, turn south (right) to Pikes Peak Ave and east (left) to Hancock Ave. If you are coming from I-25 south, take exit 139 - Hwy 24, MLK Bypass, to the Union exit, at Union turn left and proceed to the park.
